Senior Back-End PHP Engineer

Overview

We are hiring a top class Senior Back-End PHP engineer, to play a key part in our rapidly growing engineering team. You will be a coding enthusiast who contributes regularly to the open source community and will be highly motivated to work for technology start up with a disruptive idea.

The Company

BraveNewTalent is a game changing Social Recruiting platform with traction, blue chip clients and heading for global scale. The platform brings together in one place all social media content the employer has – jobs, tweets, blogs, news, pictures, videos and more, and intelligently connects talent to employers and opportunities based on a sophisticated recommendation system.

We are also developing a new model of online education, allowing employers to distribute training and skills to their talent communities in advance of the job application. Described as a ‘Technology Company of Exceptional Potential’, we now have paying clients from blue chip brands such as Starbucks, IBM, L’Oréal, Tesco and McAfee.

Following UK success and venture funding from Northzone and experienced Angels such as Cambridge Angels, Pierce Casey, Mike Bourne and Alex Hoye, BraveNewTalent has now expanded its operations to the US and India.

We are located in central London in an office at the Silicon Roundabout, around Old Street and Shoreditch.

The Role

  • Working with a team and independently to come up with creative solutions to create and maintain a complex feature set.
  • Coding, unit testing and integration testing.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Helping develop the structure and operations of a growing and maturing engineering team.

Your Core Skills

  • 3-5 years of experience in software development
  • Strong Object Oriented PHP skills
  • Strong Understanding of HTML and JavaScript
  • Knowledge of ZEND framework (or any other MVC based framework)
  • Experience using MySQL and knowledge of relational database design
  • Version control (SVN/Git) experience
  • Experienced in (and comfortable with) structured development environments (version control, release processes, light documentation, etc.), so that you are able to help us become a large, mature engineering team
  • Experience in creating scalable web-apps and working with high-volume traffic

Your Extra Bonuses

  • Familiarity with the social networking space, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Familiarity with job boards and other recruitment channels (particularly social recruitment).
  • Previous experience in an Agile/Scrum/Kanban environment
  • Strong knowledge of CSS
  • Knowledge of jQuery
  • Experience with PHPUnit, TDD
  • Experience with APIs: Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.
  • Facebook application development skills would be a huge plus
  • Server administration skills would be a huge plus (LAMP stack, SVN/Git, CI & amp; deployment software, backups, monitoring)
